Musink Tattoo Convention & Music Festival
OC Fair & Event Center
March 17 & 18, 2018

Saint Patrick’s Day weekend marked the 11th annual Musink Tattoo Convention
& Music Festival.  It was held at the Orange County Fair & Event Center in Costa
Mesa, California from March 16th to March 18th.  This year the bill included
Blink 182, Good Charlotte, The Interrupters and rap rocker Machine Gun Kelly.
Hundreds of companies and Tattoo Artists had booths lined up inside two
different buildings.  Artists tattooed away for hours all three days while
onlookers waited for them to make the final touches before revealing their
masterpieces.  Between the buildings there were a couple dozen vintage cars
and motorcycles all polished and lined up in two rows for car lovers to check
out.  There was some beautiful carts in all different colors from pink to purple to
turquoise. Outside were tons of different food trucks from vegan tacos, pizza,
burgers and some deliciously amazing garlic fries!  At the opposite end they
had a hanger that they opened up later in the day to reveal a stage.

Later the explosive punk ska outfit, a Hellcat Records band The Interrupters
took the stage and gave the audience a very energetic and fun set. Performing
some of the fan favourites like “By My Side”, “Take Back The Power”, “Friend
Like Me” and “Family as well as covering iconic 80’s ska band Operation Ivy’s
“Sound System”.  The Interrupters always puts on a brilliant set and really gets
the crowd singing and dancing along.  Good Charlotte was next to grace the
stage with their pop punk anthems and full of energy sets.   Opting to keep it
very nostalgic that night and playing almost a whole set of their classic songs
from their debut self-titled album and 2002’s The Young and The Hopeless.
The band took the stage and immediately explode into “The Anthem” getting the
crowd moshing and singing along with twins Benji and Joel.  Non-single fan
favourites “My Bloody Valentine”, “Girls and Boys” and “Riot Girl” kept the crowd
belting out the lyrics and jumping like crazy.  Later in the set while performing
“The River”, Brandon Saller of metalcore band Atreyu made a surprise guest
appearance on vocals (originally sung by Avenged Sevenfold front-man M.
Shadows) and killed it!  Good Charlotte have never disappointed and always
make sure to give you an epic show. Closing out night two was Blink 182 and
to the fans delight they started with “Cynical”, “Anthem Part Two” and “Feeling
This”. All the hits were played from “The Rock Show” to “I Miss You” to “Stay
Together For The Kids”.  The band played “Josie” for the first time in two years
and “Heart’s All Gone” for the first time in three years.  Closing out the set with
the song that put the band on the map in the mid 1990’s “Damnit”.  I really think
Blink sound better than they ever did since bringing in the highly talented
Alkaline Trio singer and guitarist Matt Skiba a few years back. Not to say Tom
Delonge wasn’t talented but I personally feel Matt’s vocals mesh better with
Mark Hoppus.

On Sunday I returned for day three to check out Machine Gun Kelly and see
what he was all about.  I was absolutely blown away by his set!  After catching
him on Showtime’s Roadies and recently being introduced to some of his
music I had to see him live.  He can go back and forth between different genres
and vocals from rock, punk, metal and rap. Performed a lot of his newest
release Bloom  including “Let You Go”, “Golden God”, “Bad Things” and his
newest single “27”. MGK also did a beautiful rendition of Linkin Park’s “Numb”
in memory of their amazing singer Chester Bennington, who passed away
almost a year ago.

Musink was such an awesome weekend despite the weather not being so
great. Thank you Travis Barker for putting the whole thing together and keeping
it going for so long. I think everyone, including myself, will be looking forward to
returning next year to see what you’ve got in store for us fans!
