On March 22 the Van’s Warped Tour had its annual Kickoff at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida and was co-hosted by tour founder Kevin Lyman and Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte of 3OH!3. A first for the tour’s Kickoff as it’s usually held in downtown Los Angeles. The tour lineup is usually announced over weeks leading up to the kickoff but it wasn’t announced until the Kickoff. There were short performances by Less Than Jake, Dash Ten, Real Friends and Wage War throughout the webcast.
Despite the tour lineup not being announced until the kickoff the early bird tickets were selling out quickly. This year has several new stages including the Cyclops Stage, the Poseidon Stage and the Monster Energy Party Zone North and South Stages. The Journeys Right Foot and Left Foot Stages and the Full Sail stages return. The Monster Energy Party Zone Stages are aimed towards heavier music while the rest of the stages are a mix of everything. The tour is set to kickoff at the Gexa Energy Pavilion in Dallas, Texas on June 24th and wrap up at the Portland Expo Center in Portland, Oregon on August 13th. Sadly the tour will not be returning to Ventura, California or Toronto this year but will be stopping in Syracuse, New York for the first time. This year will see the return of Las Vegas, Nevada which has been left off the tour for the last few years.
The killer lineup the tour has this year will include the return of the Australian pop-punk band Tonight Alive, who played the tour back in 2013 and have been touring like crazy around the world and gaining a massive fan base. With a brand new album, Limitless dropping a couple weeks ago this band is set to tear up the Journeys Right Foot Stage all summer and stealing the spotlight. The Journeys Left Foot Stage will see the return of long time Warped favourites New Found Glory, Sum 41, Falling In Reverse, Good Charlotte, Reel Big Fish, The Summer Set We The Kings and Yellowcard. Assuming We Survive, Palaye Royale, Waterparks and The Interrupters will be making their debuts on the tour this summer and have been winning fans over with recent tours across the country. Other bands on the tour include Mayday Parade, The Maine, Every Time I Die, Crown The Empire, Teenage Bottlerocket and SayWeCanFly.
Now entering the tour’s 22nd year it’s going to be one of the best years yet and surely be the best part of your summer. Warped Tour founder, Kevin Lyman stated during the Kickoff that he wanted to get “back to basics: fans, bands, philanthropic and educational” just what he had set out to do when the tour began in 1995.
