The 2017 Vans Warped Tour hit Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel
& Casino on June 23rd.  After a hiatus from Vegas it returned
last year at its new location and again this year.  Three
stages, Monster South, Monster North and the Skullcandy
stages were in the parking lot, the Hard Rock stage was next
to the Nirvana Pool, the Full Sail Stage was in Vinyl and the
2 main stages, Journeys Right Foot and Journeys Left Foot
could be found in the Joint.  Fans lined up in the Paradise
Garage waiting for gates to open at 11am and bands
promptly began their sets shortly after.  Like last year it was
another scorcher, hitting around 116 degrees but having the
indoor stages, casino restaurants and indoor stages really
helped keep kids from overheating.

With bands like Hawthorne Heights, Jule Vera, New Years
Day, Andy Black and Save Ferris to name a few rocking the
main stages this year it sure has a good variety of bands
across the Journey’s stages to make everyone happy. The
Monster Energy stages have new names this year being
called the Mutant North and Mutant South stages which have
some great bands including Gwar, Silverstein and
Hatebreed.  This year also saw the return of the Skullcandy
stage which had bands like the diy synth-rock act William
Control and Greek punk rock band Barb Wire Dolls.  The Barb
Wire Dolls, who are signed to Motorhead Records, have
become local favourites in Los Angeles playing monthly
residencies at the world-famous Whisky A Go Go on the
legendary Sunset Strip.  Bands like The Ataris and Bad
Cop/Bad Cop played on the new Hard Rock stage and at this
date of the tour the mosh pit was in the Nirvana pool.  Don’t
believe I had seen a mosh pit in a pool prior to The Ataris
rocking that stage and fans really got into their hits “In This
Diary” and “The Boys Of Summer”.  We must not forget the
Full Sail stage which had Canadian sweethearts Courage My
Love who returned for their 3rd summer on the tour.  Vinyl
was packed for their set as they played tracks off their new
album Synesthesia like their new single “Animal Heart” as
well as “Need Someone”, “Stereo” and “Tough Love”.
William Control tore up the Skullcandy stage outside in the
parking lot with “I’m Only Human Sometimes”, “The Monster”
and “Beautiful Loser”.

The tour wrapped up it’s 22nd year at the Pomona Fairplex in
Pomona, California on August 6th.   This date got to see
several bands that weren’t on the tour perform including
Michael Vampire’s new project Dead Girls Academy who are
still fairly new and just debuted their first single/video “I’ll
Find A Way” about 3 weeks prior to the show.  Assuming We
Survive also made an appearance.  Both bands rocked out on
the Full Sail Stage.  New Years Day brought the Halloween
party to the Journey’s Left Foot Stage performing their hits “I’
m No Good”, “Kill Or Be Killed”, “Angel Eyes” and “Defame
Me” to name a few.  The highly controversial band Gwar
ended the night with “Saddam A Go-Go”, “Hail, Genocide”
and “Fuck This Place” all while soaking the crowd with fake
blood on the Mutant South Stage.

Kevin Lyman once again managed to brought out tons of
great bands and keep the tour very diverse. I’ve gone to the
tour every year since 2001 and he has always made sure to
mix everything up and make sure it’s the best tour possible.
Warped Tour has never disappointed and always makes for a
fun day in every city they play in.
