Burning Stars: Your debut solo album, Genuine & Counterfeit, is coming out in August. Can you tell me a little about it? William Beckett: I can't say enough about it, but I'd rather it speak for itself. It's by far my best material to date, and I'm overjoyed to share it with the world.
BS: The album was produced by Marc McClusky. What was it like working with him? William: Marc is a mad scientist. We compliment each other very well regarding taste, focus and intention. He completely nailed the vision I had for the album.
BS: The first single off the album is "Benny & Joon". How did you go about choosing that to be the lead single? William: "Benny & Joon" is a super fun summer singalong. I did just shoot a video for it, and it's a little spicy in the skin department. It was a clear choice for first single, but I will say choosing a second will be difficult considering the strength of songs on the album.
BS: Currently you are out on the Van's Warped Tour playing the Acoustic Basement Stage. This is your first year doing the tour as a solo artist. What has it been like playing acoustic on the tour? William: The Acoustic Basement stage is amazing and it's an honor to be a part of it. I think from a fan's point of view, coming to Warped can be overwhelming. Our stage gives a different flavor and flair, mixing it up a bit and offering something unique and intimate to contrast the giant crowds at the main stages.
BS: Are there any tour plans in the works after Warped Tour ends before you head overseas? William: I plan on taking the rest of August off and relaxing with my family. Then it's off to Australia for the first time as a solo artist! G'day mate...
BS: Do you have any final words for your fans? William: Thanks for your amazing support, come see me on tour and we'll hang out. Best. Fans. Ever.
