House Of Blues San Diego
April 18, 2017

Fifteen years ago Canadian pop-punkers Simple Plan released the album that
put them on the map called No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls.  The album
spawned the hit singles “I’m Just A Kid”, “I’d Do Anything”, “Addicted” and
“Perfect” and sold over 4 million copies worldwide.  Fifteen years later the band
are out touring the US, Canada and Europe to celebrate the release of the
album.  The first leg of the US tour was a success selling out all but a few shows
which resulted in the band adding second leg to the US tour this August.  Fans
were lined up outside the venues hours before doors were set to open, some
even there as early as noon hoping to catch their favourite band wandering
around.  When doors opened at 6pm fans flooded into the venue and to the
stage looking for the best and closest spot possible before Seaway hit the stage
followed by Set It Off.  Around 9pm Simple Plan walked out onto the stage one
by one as fans screamed and cheered for them before the band exploded into “I’
d Do Anything”.  The band played the rest of the album which included their
debut single “I’m Just A Kid” and their hit “Addicted”.  In the middle of "Grow Up"
Pierre and Chuck trade places and Chuck talks about the beginnings of the band
in his parent’s basement. It's very rare for a band to have such strong chemistry
and have the same lineup as long as they have but it's very special when they
do. The band formed over 15 years ago from ex members of the band Reset and
a couple friends from school creating the strong bond as friends and
bandmates.  As Pierre is getting his acoustic guitar set up he asks the crowd to
take out their cellphones and point the flashlight towards him. He begins
strumming the guitar and asks everyone to wave their hands and forth before
he begins singing “Perfect”.  Halfway through the song the band rejoins him on
stage to finish the song out. The band exists the stage as the crowd is
screaming for more and chanting “one more song”. After a few minutes the band
runs back out on stage and jumps right into “Shut Up” while the crowd is
screaming.  They finish out the encore with several old songs and “Boom!” from
their most recent album. After finishing “Welcome To My Life” the band started
throwing towels, picks, water bottles and drumsticks into the crowd.  Fans trying
so hard to take home something special from the show were fighting over
everything tossed in the crowd. The show was done and that was the end of
the first leg of the tour.  Afterwards while the band did their VIP pizza party
other fans waiting around outside to catch each band member on their way out
for picture, autographs and some conversation with their musical heroes.
Everyone who was at that show went home with some great memories and
smiles on their faces.
